Deadface, Supernaturally Menacing Mob Enforcer

This is the guy the Family sends out to frighten the Frighteners.  He doesn't actually need to kill to solve problems very often these days, but it doesn't bother him any when it comes to that.

Deadface

Dimitri Sgouros was a just another soldier for the Shapiro crime family until the day he found the mask.  It was just sitting there on the counter of the little hock shop when he walked in, the place's owner stone dead on the floor beneath it with a look of pure terror on his face.  Dmitri knew better than to stick around, let alone call the cops in, but for some reason he paused just long enough to grab the mask on his way out.  It didn't seem like anything important - until he tried it on back at his apartment and it started talking to him.  He spoke enough Greek to understand the thin, whispery voice and the promises it made.  And all it wanted was for him to spread a little fear?  That was half his job already, and the mask would make that job a lot easier.  And a lot more fun.

The Mask of Deimos lets Dimitri disguise himself for anonymity or adopt a more imposing form, helps him impose his will on others, and projects crippling waves of terror that can chill even the hardest hearts.  He loves the damn thing, and hardly ever takes it off any more.  The daimon within the Mask has never had a bearer like Dmitri before, and is honestly a little creeped out by him.  Humans just don't act like this normally - but for now Deimos will go on soaking up the terror and picking at the knots of the binding that keeps it stuck in the Mask.

Description: A tall, ominous figure in a dark suit, wearing a featureless white mask whose details change as he uses his powers, appearing different to each observer but always evoking their deepest fears.  He carries a well-concealed automatic pistol in a shoulder holster and a variety of sharp implements on his person, although he rarely needs to use them any more.  Most of his victims die of cardiac arrest or aneurysm.  Can look like almost anyone when he wants to, although he's uncomfortable pretending to be a woman and can't change his size more than a couple of inches.  If seen unmasked in his natural form he's kind of fascinatingly ugly, with a nose that's been broken too many times, cauliflower ears, and several facial scars.

Abilities:

Bound By Fear (A) Hinder using Mask of Deimos.  That penalty is persistent and exclusive.  As long as that penalty is in play, reduce damage dealt to you by 1 and whenever you are dealt damage the target with that penalty takes 1 irreducible damage.

Icon of Dread (I) Whenever you or your nearby allies Hinder, increase the penalty created by 1.

Make An Example (A) Hinder multiple targets using Mask of Deimos.  Use your Max die.  Attack one of those targets using your Mid die.

Unfeeling (I) Reduce all damage dealt to you by 2.

Upgrades & Masteries (optional):

Paralyzing Fear (I) +10 Health.  The heroes act as being in the Green zone for status die, ability access, and all abilities.  Heroes may remove this ability with three Overcome successes.  If a hero takes a minor twist while attempting these Overcomes, you may use a reaction to Hinder them by rolling your single Mask of Deimos die.

Master of Total Chaos (I) Automatically succeed at an Overcome when you throw out all the rules during a situation that is spiraling out of control.

Tactics

Deadface is a ruthless killer, but he knows his strengths well and prefers to reduce potential victims to a helpless state of terror before taking final measures.  Unfeeling lets him weather damage while he spreads penalties from Bound By Fear on as many targets as possible, augmenting his Hinders with Icon of Dread.  If he's being hard pressed by multiple foes he'll use Make An Example to limit incoming damage and deal out some harm.

His upgrade makes it harder for foes to use their most powerful abilities and buys him more time to use Bound By Fear, and his mastery reflects his love of mass panic and the collapse of order.

Outside of combat his Presence makes him more effective at forcing his will on others, and Shapeshifting lets him get close to his target without being detected - as well as concealing his terrifying relic.
